Sometimes when you feel young at heart, your body can bring you back to earth with a thump. After all, is there anything more frustrating than having a truly exciting day planned but not being able to follow through because your energy level won’t allow it? I’m going to show you how to have more energy, no matter how old you are, in 7 simple ways.

Why is my energy so low?

To be honest, you probably already know the answer to this one but to be fair, here are a few reasons why your energy is low. There are many factors that come into play in this answer.

  • Stress,
  • work,
  • family life, and
  • poor nutrition just to name a few

Work and life burnout is a huge thing these days. Everything is more expensive. People working more than one job to be able to stay afloat and pay bills which leaves little time for personal care or rest. Not only that, because we’re always on the go go go, fast food drive-thrus are convenient (and we’re not opting for the chicken salad but the burger and fries, amirite?).

So now we know the culprits of why our energy is so low here are a few ways to give your energy a boost so you can feel alive again!

How to have more energy in 7 simple ways

Before we dive into how to have more energy, I urge you to please check with your doctor or health care practitioner to see if there are more serious underlying causes as to why you are tired all the time or simply have no energy. The problem could be bigger and may require more serious remedies.

Check first!

Get walking

You may not think that a quick lap or two around your neighborhood will do you much good. However, nothing could be further from the truth. There are so many benefits to taking regular walks as exercise. The first of these is that it will get you out in the sunshine. Something that can help stimulate vitamin D production in the body and is crucial for positive mood and energy.

Additionally, you will be getting out in the fresh air. This will not only provide you with beautiful scenery but also ensure you have access to oxygen-rich air that can boost the body and the brain. Lastly, a good daily walk will also help promote your circulation and get the blood pumping around the body, which can have a very significant positive effect on your energy levels.

Of course, if you don’t fancy going on your own, you can always ask friends to join you. Then you will have a wonderful opportunity to catch up and reap all the energy-related benefits of walking.

Stay hydrated

Many people look into solutions like vitamins, hormones, and even antidepressants when trying to boost their energy levels. Indeed there can be many benefits to those for the right person.

However, what they often forget is that there is one simple thing that can make all of the difference. Yes, that staying hydrated is essential if you want to have enough energy to get you through the day.

All you need to do is make sure your body gets enough water. That’s eight glasses a day,  minimum, thus allowing your mind and body to work more efficiently. This, in turn, will help you avoid that foggy, achy feeling where it’s easier to take a nap than do something you truly value in life.

Lift weights

Yes, that’s right; getting into the gym and lifting weights is a wonderful way to keep your energy level high. This is because strength training has several benefits that can all help boost energy levels.

The first of these is that it helps build muscle, which means your body is more efficient, which can help provide a sense of well-being. Additionally, lifting weights can help keep you strong and fit and increase your stamina, making physical tasks much easier and less draining.

Can’t get to a gym? You can easily workout at home even without expensive equipment!

Consider supplements

While supplements can be controversial at times, there is some evidence that certain vitamins and other substances can help to boost and regulate our energy as we get older.

In particular, Omega 3 oils can help women over 50 because they help to ‘grease the joints’. That is, they make physical movement easier and help contribute to an overall feeling of wellness.

Vitamin B12 or B complex are also often helpful for boosting energy, as is iron. Fatigue can often be caused by an iron deficiency, and adding more to your system can resolve this.

Of course, just like with any other medicine, you must speak to your doctor before taking any supplements to make sure that it is suitable for your specific needs.

This recent article I wrote about best vitamins women over 50 should consider taking will shed a bit more light on this tip.

9 Best Vitamins Women Over 50 Should Consider Taking

Wear your glasses

Ever tried having enough energy to get through your to-do list with a splitting headache? It’s not easy!

One of the most common causes of headaches that can negatively impact energy levels is people not wearing the right prescription glasses. Undoubtedly, this can seriously impact our ability to function safely, as well as how we feel. Especially when it gets to the evening time, and our poor eyes have been straining all day!

The good news is that it’s very easy to remedy; all you need to do is find some glasses in a style you love. Then you will be happy to wear them at all times, which should help reduce any sight strain headache and make sure you are as energetic as possible throughout the day.

Get enough sleep

While you may not want to head up the stairs every night to get to bed early, especially if you still have a poop ton of things you need to get done for the day, getting enough sleep is vital when it comes to energy levels.

The emphasis is on enough here, though, and that means not too little or too much. With that in mind, aiming for around 7-7 ½ hours a night is your best bet. If you sleep longer than this, you can begin your body’s rest cycle again and make yourself feel more tired during the day.

Things that can help you get a better night’s sleep and boost your energy include getting into a positive routine each night, where you provide yourself time to wind down. This often means spending less time on your phone or watching stimulating TV, and listening to relaxing music, meditating, or reading instead.

Warm baths with lavender can also help, as can taking sleeping aids like melatonin, which can help encourage your body to fall asleep faster and not wake up so much during the night. Ensure that you take something that will help you wake up bright and breezy most mornings with enough energy to meet the day.

Unplug and recharge

Let’s face it, social media can be life sucking (and soul sucking at times) and it absolutely can cause burnout. Take an hour or two a day and unplug. Sit in stillness with some peace and quiet and look out the window at the birds flying around or the clouds floating in the air. Or, why not head down to the lake or a little park and just chill out?

Nature has an amazing way of making us stop, stand still and smell the roses. And when you do that, it recharges your batteries too. Don’t believe me? Try it and see.

These tips should help boost energy levels

As I mentioned earlier, please check with a doctor first to make sure there isn’t a more serious underlying condition. If you got a clear bill of health then any of these 7 tips will help you boost energy levels so you can stop feeling so tired all the time and dragging your butt all day.

Self care is so important and I think it’s also important to note that we are no good to anyone else if we aren’t good to ourselves.
